Schools

Dr. Yackley came to the field of psychology via her interest in school counseling. After earning her M.S. in school counseling in 1991, she worked as a middle school counselor on the coast of Oregon for 3 years.

As a child & family therapist for a community mental health center, she provided school-based services in a rural, high needs area, until training and supervising the work of doctoral interns placed in school clinics for more than a decade.

Dr. Yackley has provided extensive training and consultation to schools in trauma-informed care and working with individuals on the autism spectrum. She teaches educators the science of relationships, equips them with the skills for effective relationship intervention, and inspires them to use reflective practice to hone their relationship capacities and to grow personally. She has been invited to speak at the annual NAMI NH conference, and in 2016 was asked to provide 2 keynote presentations on Trauma and Relationships to educators across the state. She trains and consults to school staff across the state.

Mental Health Agencies

Cassie provided direct psychological services (individual, group, & family psychotherapy, psychological evaluations), consultation, and supervision in the community mental health setting for more than 10 years, following work in a group private practice (including home-based services) post-doctorate.

As the director of training for an American Psychological Association accredited doctoral-level internship program, Dr. Yackley trained and supervised psychology students in the provision of services to families coping with severe and persistent mental illnesses. Foci for the program at Dr. Yackley's lead included: the use of reflective practice, trauma-informed approaches to intervention, autism spectrum disorders, and ethical issues associated with psychological practice.

Dr. Yackley has trained mental health professionals across the state of NH in trauma-informed care and the implementation of evidence-based treatment for trauma. She is a nationally rostered provider of Child-Parent Psychotherapy, an evidence-based practice for healing trauma with young children and their caregivers.

Residential Treatment Centers

While earning her bachelor's degree in psychology, Cassie had her first experience working in the mental health field as a direct service provider at a local residential treatment center. The early experiences with traumatized youth in that setting led her to research the experiences of direct service workers in residential centers for youth during her master's degree. While working as a school counselor during the day, Cassie also provided psychotherapy to youth and their families in the evenings.

More recently, Dr. Yackley has provided training and consultation to hundreds of professionals at the state psychiatric hospital and for a large residential treatment facility for severely developmentally delayed youth.

Young Children

Although Cassie has worked with individuals across the lifespan, a significant portion of her work has focused on young children (0-6) and their caregivers.

As an intern director, Dr.. Yackley supervised a preschool consultation program that included mental health services in the Head Start setting. She is an Expert Consultant for the NH Early Childhood & Family Mental Health Certification program through the NH Association for Infant Mental Health. She developed the Trauma-Informed Early Childhood Services (TIECS) train-the-trainer program with her colleague and created the TIECS Highly Qualified Consultant program which assists professionals to provide trauma-informed consultation to preschool educators and home-visitors.

Dr. Yackley is an expert trainer in Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), an evidence-based model for children ages 0-6 years and their caregivers that have experienced interpersonal forms of violence.
